1) What should I expect during my first treatment?
Your individual treatment plan reflects a total picture drawn from a thorough intake and complete medical history, palpation of the body and pulses and examination of the tongue. During your acupuncture treatment, the needles are thin, sterilized, and disposable. Sometimes heat, or electricity, and/or massage is used to enhance the treatments.
2) Do the acupuncture needles hurt?
The needle insertion may be completely painless or like a brief prick. A sensation of heaviness, tingling, or fullness frequently occurs at the site of insertion.
3) What will I feel like after the treatment ?
You might feel tired or completely energized. However some things to do after treatment and between treatments: Avoid strenuous activity right after treatment, drink water, take a daily log of how you feel, noting any changes in your condition and/or any other areas of your life. You might find a small bruise or blood spot at the point of the needle insertion. This is normal and will go away in a few days. If you are concerned please speak with the acupuncturist.
4) How do I prepare for the acupuncture treatment?
Wear loose fitting clothes, do not come on an empty stomach or an overly full stomach, avoid brushing your tongue, and avoid alcohol and recreational drug use 8 hours before treatment.
5) Does my insurance cover acupuncture?
You will be expected to fully pay for the treatments. If your insurance does cover acupuncture, we will provide you with an invoice, that you can submit to your insurance company to get reimbursed, depending on your policy.
6) Will the acupuncture affect the medications that I am taking?
No, acupuncture has no adverse side effects and will complement any other medical treatments you are concurrently on.
